About 41 members of extremist sect, Boko Haram were on Wednesday,
January 14, 2015 killed after they had tried to overrun the largest town
in Southern Borno State, Biu, which is 300 kilometers from the state
capital, Maiduguri.
Seven insurgents sustained injuries and were captured by the
soldiers. An Armoured Personnel Carrier was also recovered from the
terrorists.
A residence of the town, Dauda Yusuf stated that “Sporadic shootings
made many of us shiver this morning as the military engaged the members
of Boko Haram in fierce battle. From all indications and given the
severity of the fight, the insurgents perhaps wanted to add the town to
the list of their captured territories.”
A unnamed senior military official who spoke in Maiduguri said the
gallant soldiers withstood the attack as they expecting the insurgents.
He added that the number of casualties could not be ascertained as the soldiers were still combing the town.
