On May 8th 2013 when Mavin Records clocked 1, Don Jazzy put out words on the web that he needs to sign a forthcoming artiste to the Record mark. Around then, Mavin Records had only known artistes Tiwa Savage, D'prince, Wande Coal and Dr Sid.
One of the 5000 artistes that sent in their works was Reekado Banks. He was the main artiste Don Jazzy chose. His stage name was Spicy around then.
The 21 year old climbing star made this known in a meeting with Punch,
"Don Jazzy put out a notice on the Internet and needed individuals to send in their demo melodies in May 2013. I sent mine and I was the stand out that got selected of 5,000 individuals. I was not Reekado Banks around then; my stage name was Spicy. After I got signed, I noticed a lot of artistes bore Spicy and I wanted to be different. I decided to change my stage name because I needed a fresh start. So, I chose Reekado Banks.”
Reekado Banks real name Ayoleyi Solomon uncovered his degree in History and Strategic Studies will be helpful one day… . "I as of late moved on from the University of Lagos and I will get to work with it sometime in the not so distant future. At this moment, I need to focus on my music vocation. I am sure my degree will prove to be useful.." he said
He recently released the video for his single Chop Am and won Rookie of The Year award at the 2014 Headies
